Muslim Brotherhood Explains its Strategy of “Gradualism”

There are few concepts that are more important than this one to understand. The most skillful Islamists (no, not Al-Qaeda) make pragmatic, rational calculations in support of extremist goals. The West, more often than not, mistakes this realistic approach as proof of the Muslim Brotherhood’s so-called “moderate” beliefs.
The top Brotherhood theologian and arguably the most influential Sunni cleric, Sheikh Yousef al-Qaradawi, did the infidels’ a favor in November by endorsing a gradualist approach towards creating a worldwide Sharia-based state. Since then, other Brotherhood leaders are allowing us to see how they envision this approach taking place.
The current leader of the Brotherhood, Mohammed Badie, spoke at a conference recently and explained it further. The two immediate objectives, Badie explained, was to increase membership and implement a long-term “reform” of societies. Unlike Al-Qaeda, the Brotherhood takes a bottoms-up approach towards jihad. He outlined the steps as follows:

1)     Reform the individual
2)     Building sound family units
3)     Building a society
4)     Building a “just and reasonable regime,” meaning Sharia-based governance
5)     Resurrecting the Caliphate.
Dispelling the myth that the Brotherhood has “evolved” in a positive way since its founding, Badie said that the time is drawing near when al-Banna’s “ultimate goal” will be reached.
This isn’t just rhetoric. You can see this “gradualist” strategy being implemented everywhere that the Brotherhood has a presence, with Hamas being no exception. Ismail Haniyeh just, yet again, recently explained the terrorist group’s plan to destroy Israel: Achieve the “interim objective of liberation of Gaza, the West Bank, or Jerusalem.”
The destruction of Israel then follows. Haniyeh elaborated, “The armed resistance and the armed struggle are the path and the strategic choice for liberating the Palestinian land, from the [Mediterranean] sea to the [Jordan] river, and for the expulsion of the invaders and usurpers [Israel]…We won’t relinquish one inch of the land of Palestine.”
It’s time for the West to wake up.
