Ankara and Baku to discuss possibility of war in Karabakh and participation of Russia and Turkey in it

During his visit to Baku, the head of Turkey's Gendarmerie Forces, Army General Necdet Ozel, met with Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev. During the talks, the parties discussed their military and technical cooperation and situation in the region, Azeri media outlets report. Informed sources of the newspaper Yeni Musavat reported that the generals also discussed issues related to a possibility of renewed hostilities in Karabakh. According to experts, in case of a new war in Karabakh, Turkey and Russia may be involved in fighting. Yerevan and Moscow have an agreement on military alliance. Turkey and Azerbaijan are also allies.

How could an open Turkish support of Azerbaijan affect the relations between Ankara and Moscow in case of military actions? According to an Azerbaijani military expert Uzeir Jafarov, in case of a war in the region, relations between Turkey and Russia will not suffer. In the opinion of the expert, if Azerbaijan decides to liberate its territory by military means and Turkey provides no direct military assistance to Baku. Turkey could sell arms to Baku, but it is unlikely that Turkey sends its troops to take part in the war on the side of Azerbaijan. As for Russia, it will also, despite its constant support of Armenia, will not interfere openly in the conflict and send troops to Karabakh. "Therefore, I do not think that if the war starts, relations between Turkey and Russia would be damaged", Jafarov said.

On the contrary, in his opinion, Moscow and Ankara will do anything to avoid military actions.
Regarding the reluctance of Azerbaijan to move closer to NATO, Baku is in this matter concerned by stiff backlash from Iran and Russia, according to the expert. It is to be mentioned in this context that U.S. diplomats believe that as long as Ilham Aliyev is in power in Baku, there will be no war for Karabakh. Aliyev uses only verbal rhetoric and does not think about a war.

Moreover, as it is known, the Azerbaijani authorities brutally persecute every group or organization which sets the task to free Karabakh from the Armenian occupation. There are dozens of Muslims in prisons of the Baku regime who were thrown there exactly for this reason.
