Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM): “Call to our Enraged People in Algeria”

On January 13, 2011, Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb leader Abu Musab Abdel Wadoud issued a statement urging Algerians to rise against their government and demand a change in their socio-economic status: “Prove to them…that the policy of ‘Starve your dog it’ll follow you’ won’t work with the lions that refuse humiliation and see the infidelity of degradation.” Abdel Wadoud asserted that the Algerian government will soon face revenge for “Allah’s religion that which you have alienated. We will avenge every widow whose husband you killed; every poor family that feeds from the waste tanks...every orphan you displaced; every Muslim family whose rights you swallowed and forced to live as animals; every father whose righteous living right you stole; every young man you pushed to meet his fate in the seas; every oil drop whose revenue you splurged in the European clubs.” Further, Abdel Wadoud stated that AQIM fighters “were taken aback due to the malpractices of the sons of France, from absenting the Sharia of Islam away from the policy of the nation...[we] promise you to take revenge and stand with our rifles in one rank with you.”
